After deducting TDS, deductor has to file TDS return. IT Department cannot process deductee's tax status until TDS return is filed by deductor. Delay in filing of TDS return attracts late filing fees of Rs 200 per day up to max amount of TDS of that return. High Court has confirmed this fees for delay in filing of TDS Statement in its recent judgement (sec 234E).
